This should have marked the time when Dwight Howard could escape from everything.
He spent last week in Lake Tahoe fishing and riding dune buggies in hopes of clearing his mind before an unpredictable offseason once he becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1....
Lakers - The Forum: Should Lakers look to keep both Howard, Gasol?
Mark Willard and Arash Markazi discuss the success the Memphis Grizzlies have had with their big men and debate if the Lakers should look to keep both Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol....

There are some key decisions that have to be made, one of which is how much to offer an overrated center who will certainly be looking for a max deal but doesn't deserve it. The other, which may prove more difficult, is how to get younger and better to the point where you can afford to sunset an all time great.
theFranchise 50/50. I think they keep treading water in the 8/9 position in the West. Howard will have to continue his recent success. Maybe we'll get a preview of what the post-Kobe era Lakers will look like.

Jerry's commitment to making the Lakers the model of success was displayed through his investments in premier players and coaches like Pat Riley(4 titles) & Phil Jackson(5 titles) and such players as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal & Kobe Bryant. Jerry Buss single handily elevated the level of competition in the NBA and forced an entire league to benchmark itself against his model. That ripple effect is immeasurable in how it has changed the landscape of an entire sport and how it has touched the lives & business of millions, perhaps billions of people worldwide. This is the stuff legends are made of. RIP. less
avifinkelstein Single handedly raised the competition for the 13 or so NBA titles the Boston Celtics had before he bought the Lakers, or the nine straight that they put together prior to the arrival of Dr. Buss?

theFranchise Over that period they had 4 owners if my wikipedia is correct. From a single owner perspective, I can't name one other individual that has done more to further the game and build a culture of winning with the longevity and level of success that Dr. Buss did.
This may be the most dysfunctional team I have ever seen. Get rid of Howard now. Trade him before he hits FA as you dont want to deal with that headache.

I will concede that he is uniquely qualified for this Lakers gig in that he makes a much better media punching bag than Mike Brown, but how could he be a better option than The Zen Master. Both Phil and I are "stunned".

And I think they think that Howard may not be the brightest player and wouldn't know how to thrive Post-Triangle. So after two years, then what? But I also think they won't win now because the guy doesn't coach any defense and that pace can't win in the postseason.

Bringing Dwight and Nash in changed the chemistry and no one has proven to be better and fixing chemistry than Phil. The writing is on the wall for Kobe. Sorry Mamba, it was a nice run.

They did it with the Heat 2 years ago, they are going to do it again. And now Kobe gave them more fuel for the fire by telling everyone to "Shut up and let us work." I know this is the story, but I would rather hear about the surprise teams in the NBA, anyone else?

I don't know what Kobe was thinking when he requested that. That was about ten days after he said the 2012 Olympic Team could beat the Dream Team. It's like he went nuts when he put on the USA #10.
