Eagles - Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Breakdown
With LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown leading the way, running back is a position of strength on the Philadelphia Eagles. The team currently carries five running backs and the question is not whether someone will get cut, but rather who. It's no secret that Chip Kelly likes to run the ball, and with an o...
For most of the past few seasons, the safety position for the Eagles has been mostly a misnomer. With a league-high 91 passing touchdowns allowed since 2010, the last level of the Eagles defense ha......
Interestingly enough, the two best free agent seasons are being conducted in KC and Philly. Love the guys they got. Updated draft wish list- Joekel, Fisher, Millner, Geno (let's face it, perfect name for Philadelphia).
Interesting article by Reuben Frank about whether the read-option is a fad or the future of the game. I continue to say "fad" and am surprised to see that I'm in the minority.... again. I hope that I'm wrong.

Until proven so, I expect to continue watching the same 5 franchises with conventional offenses jockeying for the Super Bowl; separated only by which team has the best defense in a given year. While Jeffy and Howie keep waiting with their fingers crossed for lightening to strike! less
cap10tripps It makes sense as an offense. You can run variations without a running qb (see NE Patsies). It does however, put a lot of pressure on your defense. You will need to load up on defensive backs and have a couple play making linebackers.

craigsmith33 Sf runs similar offense and they made bowl. Cant wait to watch
Good to see the team moving on from Cullen Jenkins. He was OK, but he is not the run stopper we need in this new system. Lets hope that the new TOAST of the town, yes you Namdi, is next to be shown the door...
craigsmith33 Not sure if I want an aging corner, unless he was a nickel player. We got burned enough last year for a lifetime

theFranchise Woodson has played safety for a few years now. I think he would help any club that can afford him from a leadership standpoint. 1 or 2 year deal max.
February 18
fgramlich I wouldn't mind bringing in Woodson, but I doubt he'd want to go anywhere but a Super Bowl contender.

You see what happened in Washington last season, years after Mike Shannahan had become a joke. That's why I hold onto hope that Foles wins the job and continues to progress from what would've been a much more talked about rookie season had he not gone in the same draft as RG3, Luck, and Wilson. A guy like Charles Woodson makes that defense much better from a leadership stand point. Woodson at safety with a guy like Dee Millner to tutor makes my only real worry the qb (albeit it's the biggest worry in sports). less

Though he could be a great presence for a guy like Milliner, I still believe Geno's the pick.
Dixon, Foles, or Vick. Cant say I am overly impressed with any of the three as the QB going into next year but if you were the GM who do you start and why?
cap10trippsI'm ok with the "open competition." If it's even close, you have to go Foles and cut Vick loose. Dixon's intriguing. If it's even close, you have to go Foles and cut Vick loose. Dixon's intriguing. People forget that a couple years back he started for an injured Roethlisberger, and the Steelers were very excited about him and the ability he showed. Injuries have plagued him since though, and we already deal with that with the more proven Vick. I'm still hanging onto hope that Foles wins the job.

fgramlich Vick needs to go as part of purging the Reid era. Not only does Vick suck, he's part of the cancer that infected this team for the last 3 years. Not only does Vick suck, he's part of the cancer that infected this team for the last 3 years. Since Chip is the most brilliant football mind on the continent, he'll surely figure out how much Vick sucks during camp and get rid of him. Otherwise Kelly's just full of it about the importance of his QB protecting the football. It's clear to me that Foles is not part of the picture, hopefully Howie wins a game of chicken over how much a part of the picture he is. I'll not hold my breath. Dixon is a #3, he's not even a #5 or 6 on 25 of the 31 other teams in the league. Aside from that, I'm in favor of drafting one of these read-option QBs, starting from scratch with a rookie, and losing as many games as possible to land in the top 4 again and secure the read-option QB of Chip Kelly's wet dreams next April... less
theFranchise Jaws is a tad biased, an Eagles optimist if you will ;) I'm leaning the direction of your earlier comment about Vick's unawareness and propensity for turnovers being a liability.
How did eagles resign Vick today. In 2011 didnt he sign 6 yr 100 million dollar contract did they cut him and now are resigning him someone please answer!!
craigsmith33 Lets give this team time. I have some faith vick can be productive
February 11
cap10tripps At least Chip will run the ball. I still think Vick's unawareness and propensity for turnovers make him more of a liability than anything in this offense. I hope I'm wrong.

If he actually thinks he can win with or change Vick, he might as well go back to college.
February 12
avifinkelstein Nick Foles is not the best option for the team, especially if the coach doesn't think so. There's no decent quarterbacks in the NFL to be had, nor in the draft. It was the right move. If he sucks, it's not as if the alternative is Tom Brady.
February 13
cap10tripps I thought Foles showed enough to prove he's a better qb. Apparently Ron Jaworski will be the only pocket qb that I'll ever be able to follow on my team.
My initial thoughts on the draft are first to draft Joekel immediately if he's there. If not, take Jones, Lotulelei, or Millner. If not, take Jones, Lotulelei, or Millner. If Joekel's not there though, I'd like to have a backup plan to trade down, possibly to Arizona for the 7th and 38th picks. This would give the Cards Geno Smith and allow us to grab Millner, Jones, or E.J. Manuel (who I believe is Chip's guy). That's still a bit too high for Manuel, so at this point try and get the Rams' 16th and 22nd picks. These are just a lifelong fan's preferable view of how things shake out. Your initial thoughts on the 4th pick? less
The Philadelphia Eagles hold the No. 4 pick in the 2013 NFL draft. This is our reward for suffering through such a crappy season in 2012. It also makes the draft that much more exciting and fun to discuss their options with a pick that high
RuFiOhhh I honestly don't think he will be starting somewhere next year. His asking price is going to be too much for most teams to take the risk. I think the rest of his career will be as a backup or there is a chance he will be out of football.
February 5
theFranchise I'd take him over anything Arizona has at this point ;)

Is anybody else getting the feeling that Manuel's going to be the pick? I still think it's gotta be Joekel if he's there, but if Fat Andy's smart, he won't be.

chrislong EJ Manuel sucks. Overrated QB on an overrated team, FSU. I pray we don't waste the pick on him, but who knows.
February 5
cap10tripps Definitely too high for Manuel. He impressed at the senior bowl though. Possible they trade down from 4 or up from the 2nd round if he's Kelly's guy.
February 5
Chip Mullen D. Dixon sound familiar? He will be on the team.
February 7
cap10tripps Yeah, they're working on a deal to make him a backup. If they bring back Vick, I will be officially skeptical, if not slightly disturbed by Chip Kelly at this point.

I wonder who was the true driving force behind putting a gimmick product on the field? Walrus or Jeffy. A gimmick offense always loses to a talented, disciplined, conventional defense. Chip Kelly may have success early, but once the system's exposed then disciplined, conventional defenses - there's usually two in the playoffs (and one of them is usually the friggin Giants) - will shut the Eagles down.

Donovan proved me wrong, and I accepted that. Vick proved me right. I don't care to take the time to wait until December (when the rest of the league figures out the trick) to have a strong opinion on this hire. Its not about negadelphia. They didn't hire my guy, they're chasing the dragon, and I'm pissed. I have no desire to watch 62-51 football games, that defense does not win in the end. If they'd hired Bradley I'd be doing a jig down Broad St!

Here it is, let time tell if this was the right hire, or wrong. Looking at some of the 'new' offenses this year, the pistol formation has started to creep into the play books. Belichek grilled Chip about ideas to run the uptempo and it worked (until last night). We don't have to run a gimmick offense that ESPN has portrayed we will, just some speed and an adequite QB who can read the defense and get rid of the ball quickly will work (everything Vick isn't). less
